When I started homesteading in Michigan, I quickly learned something surprising: growing food was the easy part. Getting it to the people who wanted it? That was the real challenge.

I had eggs stacking up in the kitchen, more tomatoes than any family could eat, and neighbors who kept asking where they could buy fresh, local food. The farmers market was great, but it was only one day a week and required hours of setup. Social media groups were chaotic — buried posts, no payment system, no way to manage orders. And the big online platforms? They were designed for shipping, not for the farmer down the road selling eggs by the dozen.

So I built Rootly.

Rootly started as a simple idea: what if there was an Airbnb for local food? A place where any farmer, baker, beekeeper, or food maker could set up a store in minutes and connect with buyers in their neighborhood.
